Grilled Bean Burger the healthy alternative
It’s amazing how most people associated grilled and BBQ food as only being meat based when in reality there are loads of healthy and tasty vegetarian dishes that can be cooked on a grill.
This wonderful grilled bean burger recipe is a good example. Butter bean, black beans and kidney beans are a great substitute for meat based product as a filler for burgers as they are tasty and absorb the flavors well.
This grilled bean burger recipe server up to 8 people but if this is too much you can easily just half the content for 4 people.
Ingredients for Grilled Bean Burgers
- 6 Tbsp of extra virgin Olive Oil
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2 onions
- 2 cans of butter beans
- 2 cans of black beans
- 2 tbsp of soy sauce
- 2 tsps of thyme
- 1 tsps of chilli powder
- 1-2 cups of fresh breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Add a couple of tablespoons of the olive oil into a pan with the chopped onion and crushed garlic and cook until soft.
Add the canned butter, black beans and thyme and cook for a further 5-10 minutes making sure you stir the bean regularly.
Once cooked add the a food processor and blend until rough in consistency.
Remove the mixture from the heat and allow to cool slightly in a bowl.
Add the breadcrumbs, soy sauce, chilli and shape the mixture into 8 good size burgers. Place the burgers in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to chill.
Set you grill to high heat and place a grill tray in the middle, oil the tray and place the bean burgers on the tray for 3 minutes on either side until they are crisp and golden brown in color.
To serve, place in a bun, add a slice of beef tomato and some salad for the perfect grill bean burger recipe.
